谢尚平,男,1963年8月8日浙江省衢州市出生。1984年毕业于山东海洋学院海洋系,同年考取国家教委公派留学生,在大连外语学院出国人员培训部学习获优秀毕业生证书及日本文部省奖学金,1985年赴日留学,1988年在日本东北大学获硕士,1991年在同校获博士学位。1991年至1993年在Princeton大学与著名气候学家、美国科学院院士Philander教授从事博士后工作,1993年至1994年在Washington大学任助理研究员,1994年至1999年在日本北海道大学任副教授。1999年起在美国Hawaii大学任教,现为国际太平洋研究中心(IPRC)海洋气候实验室主任、教授、从事海洋,气象及气候学研究。

0 |4 z$ G" h0 ~& E0 f# V主要从事以下四个方面的研究: 海气相互作用,气候变化,海洋及大气动力学,卫星遥感的应用。首次提出了风—蒸发—海表温度反馈(WES feedback)机制理论, 解决了气候南北不对称问题; 发展了赤道年年周期震荡理论及热带大西洋偶极子动力学模式;世界首次融合各种微波卫星遥感资料来研究大尺度海气相互作用,发现了由夏威夷岛所诱发的世界上最长的海岛尾迹; 在黄东海及南海发现了一系列由陆地及海底地形激发的海气新现象;发现了南热带印度洋的耦合罗斯贝波动,此现象在印度洋年际变化中具有最高的预报性;发现了模态水(mode waters)的新动力学机制。在包括Science, J. Climate, JGR, GRL, JAS 和JPO在内的国际一流学术期刊上发表文章80多篇, 研究成果被海洋和大气界学者广泛引用, 并被世界上的新闻媒体(报纸、电台和电视)所报道。由于突出的学术成绩, 被日本气象学会在1996年授予山本-正野奖,2002年授予学会奖(此两项奖都是历史上第一个获此荣誉的非日本人)。在美国和日本国内, 以及在国际学术界进入科学领导团体, 并在J. Climate(大气海洋气候学中影响因子最高的学术期刊)等国际一流学术杂志担任编辑。多次在重要国际学术会议任召集人,做特邀报告, 还应邀为包括日本国会内阁大臣及参众两院议员在内的高层政府官员就气候研究作讲座报告。在过去的几年里,从美国和日本的有关科学研究资助机构里获得过总额超过百万美元的研究经费,并参与了总额超千万美元的其他研究项目。
